Remix?

Did you remix this from a crystal Method song? It sounds really familiar. If not good capitalizing on the style. Its really good.

Winterwind-NS responds:

naw its not a remix but this is kinda something what they would make
thanks

Ooh

I really like those drums. Real chull groove you've got going on there. Outside of the rhythm it's a really minimalist vibe you've got going on. It's cool. The scratch is a good touch too. Where did you get that from?

Thattixx responds:

Glad you liked it! Made the scratch with FL Wave Traveler from some sample in a random hip hop kit with some guy sayin "keepin it real". I basically just scratched that phrase up a bit : D

Hehe

Really you got a good tone coming out of that mic. It's really hard getting a good fat distortion out of a recording interface let alone out of a shitty computer mic. It's good heavy death metal. The drum machine takes away from the song a little bit but the simple bass and guitar add to the songs meat. What I'm really impressed with is the vocals. For that really low gutteral deth style it works really well. You do a generation of bedroom metal heads proud.

I like it.

Eh, not too bad

Yeah it's not good but I can sympathize I used to do shit like this when I first started. FL Studio has some neat tools but it still ends up sounding like bad techno. You've got a great ear for harmony. Focus on what you can do with the guitar harmonizing with your self and then translate it to the midi instruments. Also remember that with drums it's best to go minimalist and use the cool complicated shit with the transitions.

Look around you can find some trials of good recording software like sonar or logic. With what you're doing here look up ableton live it has a really neat session view where you can even do some loop stuff but you need a midi foot pedal.

Keep going man you've got some good ideas but room for improvement.

Crunchy

Interesting tone on the guitars really crunchy kinda like slip knot. There's a click in there thats kind of annoying. I don't know if thats part of the drum track or if you're peaking somewhere but if you render it again that may be something you wanna look at fixing. All in all its a good tune. I really dig the back up vocals they fit into the mix. The ping pong delay is a bit disorienting especially if you listen to music in head phones like I do. The effect is cool but if you can tone down the panning. It takes away from the musicianship when you have to deal with the helicopter effect.
I like the showman ship with the rain noises and the sample at the beginning. Keep it up I can tell you guys took a lot of time with this. I wouldn't mind hearing more.

CWN responds:

Working on a remix, especially concentrated on the drums. The clicking is actually the bass drum, with no bass in it or something. The new raw mix sounds a lot better. Also removed the panning, as it was starting to annoy me as well!

Thanks for the review!

Wow

That bass is awesome, really really awesome. I like the lead guitar parts too. The whole thing sounds epic, I like it man good job. The only complaint I would have is that it may be a bit busy at times but it still seems to work. You did a really good job on programming the drums. I usually tend to hold back on that aspect cause when it comes down to it I'm not good at it but you really pull it off in this piece.

jnry3 responds:

Hey thanks! Compliments like this make all that work feel worth it (especially if it came from an NGAP artist whom I respect). ^_^

I agree that it becomes busy at certain parts, and I have to say it's the hardest part to coordinate in the track (and, for me, the most fun to listen to).

Try playing Percussion Freaks or Drum Mania (if you have that in a video arcade in your town). It opens your mind to new beats.

Pretty

Not bad quality for a live performance. I think this belongs under indie but i do really dig the tune. I wish I could hear bass in the recording. It could use a flowing bass line to drive the melody.

Was this more of a jam session? It end kinda chaotic. You should try to rewrite this and record it. I bet it would make a good studio recording.

Makes you just kinda wanna chill out and remember lost times.

Well done.

I find it odd though that you do a cover of a cover. You do add a bit of a rockabilly touch to it with your singing style. Which is cool but I think Cash covered this end of it well enough. I would have liked to see what other direction Trent Reznor's industrial original could have been taken.

TheRealStevieHendrix responds:

Yeah, I could never stack of to Cash's version. But it was still fun to cover nonetheless. It is odd to cover a cover, but Noel covering a cover of himself is by far much wierder.

Wow I'm impressed

I really really like this song. The string scratches hit you kind of rough in the beginning but once you hit in with the effects and the vocals it's really rather pretty. You've got a fantastic voice. You did a good job with the recording but a professional will put you in the big leagues. Best I've heard on here so far man.

Keep going I wanna hear more!

SatoDraygonFist2 responds:

Aiyo, thanks mate. I have a cover of, 'no one else' by building 429 on here now too, but its not as good as this, at least i dont think. the vocals on the other one aren't as strong.

A bit boring

Like the other guy said: It's not bad. Not a whole lot to it though. That drum beat is a bit too hip hop for a piece like that. Which it could work but it would need a few more elements to fill it out into that sort of flavor. Also running the same beat through the whole thing takes away from it as well. You could also develop this into a classical arrangement but thats also going to take at least a meter change here and there in order to give it some extra umph. As it stands this would best be shortened to a loop.

Currently I do web development. The only way I keep sane is doing music. I've gone to touring bands to creative influence. Need a backing track. This is the way I have fun.
